About

I'm Sunil Mayya, a software engineer at Mozilla working on Firefox — primarily the web platform, networking, and media. Day to day that means implementing web-platform features in Gecko and taking part in the standards conversations (WICG, IETF, W3C) that shape them.

A lot of my recent work sits at the boundary between the browser and the network: things likeLocal Network Access, HTTP caching, and the media stack. I enjoy the parts of the job that don't make it into the release notes — the design tradeoffs, the cross-vendor disagreements, and the implementation details you only discover once you try to ship the thing.

I write here about that work — browser internals and web standards explained from the inside. Away from the editor I spend a fair bit of time in the kitchen, so you'll also find cooking recipes here, alongside the occasional post about life in general.

You can reach me at smayya@mozilla.com. I do most of my work in the open; you'll find my contributions onBugzilla and across Mozilla'sGitHub.

The opinions on this site are my own and don't necessarily represent those of Mozilla.
